Pedant: How do you explain the atrocities of the Old Testament.
Reverant: That was not God. That was Jews.
Pedant: How about the Plagues of Egypt?
Reverant: That was a metaphor. We don't take the Bible that seriously, you know. We're not idiots.
Pedant: You are saying that Moses was a metaphor?
Reverant: No, idiot. The weird bits are metaphors, the normal bits are real.
Pedant: So, what do the Plagues of Egypt symbolise?
Reverant: "Do what God says."
Pedant: ... Or he will slaughter your first born.
Reverant: No idiot. It's a metaphor.
Pedant: For what?
Reverant: For "do what I say"!
Pedant: Or what?
Reverant: Or else.
